What is Palliative Care?
The palliative care approach often starts with the diagnosis of a life limiting illness and is provided by a team of healthcare professionals, caregivers and community members. The main goal of palliative care is to alleviate suffering, whether it be physical, emotional, social or spiritual and to help achieve the best possible comfort and quality of life right up until the end of life. The palliative care team works together with the individual and their families to help meet their goals and needs.

Palliative care works hard to alleviate physical symptoms such as pain, nausea, loss of appetite, confusion and shortness of breath.
Palliative care is respectful and is supportive of a patients dignity, and helps support individuals to work through the grief, joy and anger accompanying the end of life.
